The Loss of Peace – Video Blog

Broken Pieces and Saving Grace (Series) – an Introduction (2 of many)

The first loss that came to exist at the first error of mankind was the loss of peace. We were once content with and only mindful of the good things that God had graciously and lovingly provided for us – the fruit of the earth, comfort and care, the companionship of the spouse God had given to us as a good and needed, loving remedy to loneliness – a way for us to express and share the love God had put into our hearts, and lest we forget, the best and most complete gift we ever had – the gift of Gods presence – walking with God, in fellowship with Him, here on earth. The creature in conscience and physical relationship with the Creator. Man and women were complete in this relationship – but not for long. The first loss came – it was the loss of this peace. The man and woman had been naked and no shame was felt – they were unashamed. Imagine that. So at peace with one another and ourselves, that we were not preoccupied with the way we looked or didn’t look. We thought more about others and God than we thought about our own insecurities. But sin (that transgression and first error) entered the world as we chose to disobey God’s direction and choose against God. The results were the loss of our peace. We, for the first time in human history, we were ashamed. We felt shame. We noticed and identified with pain for the first time. It hurts to be a sinner. That is our reality. And sin had entered our being – our bodies and minds were now infected. The bodies suffer, but so does the mind. Naked. What a shame was felt when we noticed that we no longer were content to be noticed – now, with our flaws – we were no longer content to be ourselves wholly – and the pain of insecurity grabbed hold of ourselves and we did what scared people do – we hid… and we hide.

Our Lowly State Before Him – Video

Broken Pieces and Saving Grace (Series) – an Introduction (1 of many)

The Salve We All Need

We are known by a God who desires to be known back. A holy God who has provided a way to be whole again. He is putting the pieces of our lives back together anew. That’s good news for those of us who accept that we are broken. That the many and intricate pieces of our lives, physically and emotionally are scattered pieces that are painfully spread too far apart for us to put them back together again without the help of God. After all, He formed us. He shaped us. He put us together in our mothers womb. He can help us get back what was lost. He can pick up the broken pieces from the ends of the earth and shape them back together. The empty hole – only He can fill it. He has the pieces that we are missing and He is the peace that we are seeking. Are you broken as I am? Time and time again, do you recognize your need to be forgiven, to forgive others… and, painfully, to admit your needy state before God and others. Believe me, God knows these things about us and our lowly state before Him better than we recognize it in ourselves. He is near to the brokenhearted. He binds our wounds and restores our losses – if not here, than in heaven.

Haley Montgomery and Pain in The Christian life and In The Church.

(Above – The initial cover idea for my next book)

I’ve never posted another’s project or link on my blog, but this conversation impacted me so much. The honesty in this conversation is so brutally real. It’s amazing that a conversation can be so impactful, which is why I started Podcasting. I believe many more will be comforted by it.

Please take an hour out of your day to listen to this very emotional conversation (link above) about the pain of life and the pain and beauty that comes from being a part of this thing called church. This conversation made me feel as though I were not alone in this world. Thank you 102.5 The Vine and Haley and Brian and all involved for being willing to show your scars with this project.

Pain as a Megaphone to bring us Back to God – The 3M Podcast with J.N.Wheels

Though Jacob has neglected God, God is still working, even behind the scenes. He is about to allow pain into the lives of Jacob and his family. The megaphone is coming. Though sin tries to derail the people of God from the best purposes God had for them, God is still sovereignly working all things together for His good purpose and pleasure.

The Pain of their own choices is about to become the ice water splashed upon their spiritually sleepy faces. God will use these circumstances to wake them up from their slumbering state. The fear of God has left them, but its about to return. They have taken things, dramatically into their own hands and yet God is about to bring them back. God is bringing Jacob to the end of himself. Jacob will be brought to pathetic and disgraceful lows… We must all get there, sometimes time and time again in order to look back up to God from our knees and acknowledge Him once again as Lord and master.

One more quote, and listen carefully, and then we will dive into our text.

 From Lewis, once again:

“Let me implore the reader to try to believe, if only for a moment, that God, who made these deserving people, may really be right when He thinks that their modest prosperity and the happiness of their children are not enough to make them blessed: that all this must fall from them in the end, and if they have not learned to know Him they will be wretched. And therefore He troubles them, warning them in advance of an insufficiency that one day they will have to discover. The life to themselves and their families stands between them and the recognition of their need; He makes that life less sweet to them.

If God were proud He would hardly have us on such terms: but He is not proud, He stoops to conquer, He will have us even though we have shown that we prefer everything else to Him, and [(emphasis mine) then, in our broken state, we will finally] come to Him because there is ‘nothing better’ now to be had.”

Jacob is getting there. The Brokenness is coming and Potter is standing ready to make him right once more.

Warts and All – The 3m Podcast clip 2

If you read Genesis, and then walk away as the defeated sinner, than you’ve missed it ALL!

Yes, Jacob may deserve condemnation! BUT that not what he is given. He deserves to be punished, but God gives Him grace.

We cannot wish upon another what we would’t want upon ourselves.

God extends the same mercy and love and kindness and grace upon your life, believer that He gives to Jacob and his sons!

Thats the point of the warts and the scars and the wounds that are so painfully on display in the life of the heroes of the Bible!

John 3:17,18

17 “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned…

And so… How do we view others?

Do we judge others more harshly than God judges us.

Psalm 103:14

“For he knows how weak we are;

he remembers we are only dust.”

A lot of times, God uses our weaknesses to bring us back to Him. He uses our problems, our failures, and our pain to speak to us when otherwise we cannot hear Him.

“We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” – C.S. Lewis

Worts and All – 3m Podcast clip

We don’t live in a phony “insta life” (that’s in reference to instagram for the older folks). This is reality. This is real life. And in the Bible, it shows us the life of others, warts in all – filled with sickening failures that we all hope to avoid.

I think we’d rather see our heroes in a more pleasant light. We only want to see the pretty. But thats not reality.

Reality is, that God came to rescue us because we NEED rescuing, not because we were deserving heroes without painful and ugly chapters in our lives. God is making a point to all of us through Jacob’s life. Is it loud and clear? God saves undeserving men and women because He loves them and they need Him. And in the end, through it all, He will reap the glory, despite our depravity.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
